Rich & Broke

Jon Bellion

"True wealth is revealed by what remains sacred when everything is shaken..."

There are moments that reveal what we have really been living for. Most of the time, success is easy to measure from the outside. The visible signs that life has been built, earned, and secured. But there is another measure beneath all of that. It does not always show itself when things are calm. It reveals itself when life shakes. When the ground moves. When certainty disappears. When the things we worked so hard to hold suddenly feel unable to hold us in return. This song is not a rejection of success. It is a warning about mistaking the tools for the treasure. Money can provide. Achievement can open doors. Status can create access. But none of them can tell us what is sacred. None of them can decide what we would give ourselves for. When the boundary of life comes close, something gets stripped away. We begin to see the hierarchy we were carrying all along. What we reach for first. What we refuse to lose. What we would lay down our pride to protect. Jon cuts through the illusion in this song. To be rich and still be broke is to have gained the world’s symbols while losing touch with what gives them meaning. It is to confuse shine with substance. It is to let the things meant to serve love become replacements for it. The real battle is not simply against wanting more. It is against forgetting what the more is for.
